After two weeks of college football action, this is the game that has fans and punters licking their lips as #2 Alabama take on the high-flying #15 Ole Miss.

Alabama have begun their title chase with two wins this season, but outsiders haven’t been entirely impressed with their wins against Wisconsin and Middle Tennessee.

The Crimson Tide opened their account with a 35-17 win against the ranked Wisconsin and they showed good signs of becoming a title contender once again, but a lazy 37-10 win against Middle Tennessee didn’t inspire many.

Alabama are used to putting up much bigger numbers against much better defenses, so scoring an average of 36 points per game isn’t up to their usual standard. Their typically stingy defense has been solid, giving up only 13.5 points per game and they will need that defense to hold off Ole Miss.

Ole Miss entered the season with some expectations, but they didn’t expect to start with consecutive 70-point games.

The Rebels kicked off their season with a 76-3 smashing of the lowly-ranked Tennessee Martin, but they continued their form with another drubbing, this time of Fresno State 73-21.

Since chalking up a disappointing 42-3 loss to end last season, the Rebels have come out firing and their season success could be in the balance against Alabama.

Alabama vs. Ole Miss betting

Alabama are well favoured in the head-to-head betting market. Most punters enjoy backing the Crimson Tide at home as it has become a tough place to snatch an away win at.

Despite a lack of confidence in Ole Miss in the head-to-head market, the bookmakers have kept them safe in the points spread betting, giving the Rebels only a 6.5-point head start.

Alabama: -163 (-6.5) with Bovada.lv
Ole Miss: +222 (+6.5)

Ole Miss are -101.01 with Bovada to cover the spread, so the line could well shift out to +7.5. That’s a very important shift as it would mean Ole Miss could lose by a touchdown, but still cover for punters.

If you’re considering taking Alabama -6.5, it’s best to do so as quickly as possible. History shows that they should win by at least a touchdown, so adding the -6.5 to multi-bets could be the way to go.

The total points market has set a mid-range total of 53.5 points. This total looks right on the line as Alabama games have gone under that total by an average of four points, but Ole Miss games have gone well over by 34 points.

It’s unlikely that Ole Miss will be scoring 70 points in this game, in fact, it’s almost impossible. We think this game will be somewhere around the 24-17 which gets the under 53.5 at $1.95 with Bet365.com.

What happens when Ole Miss beats Alabama?

Ole Miss scored a big upset win over Alabama last year, which gives punters a good guide as to what to expect in the 2015 rematch, but what happened on that historic day?

After jubilant fans rushed the field following their win, they decided to take down the goalposts and they have never been found.

Apparently part of the goalposts have become bedside tables and various other objects spread across the U.S. Reports state there are pieces in Dallas, Auburn and Madison, so what do the students have to say about all this.

“We weren’t the drunk fraternity freshmen guys carrying the goalposts around,” says former student Thorne Williams. “We were the two or three years into professional career carrying the goalpost around.”

A large piece of the goalpost went to graduate student Buckner Corso, who posted a photo with his prized memorabilia. Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork tweeted Corso to save him a piece.

“I thought, ‘Holy crap, I hope I’m not going to get in trouble for this,'” Corso said.

“We cut it all up, and everyone got their piece and rolled out of town. It’s crazy how casual it was.”

If Ole Miss can cause the upset again this Sunday, don’t expect the fans to be rushing the field at Alabama. They will be severely out-numbered by the Crimson Tide faithful who are desperately seeking revenge.
