Jets versus Browns NFL Match History & Game Background

The Browns opened as a 3.5-point favorite for this game, but they are now at -6.5 with the news that Jets’ QB Sam Darnold has mono and will be out for this game. Trevor Siemian is slated to take over under center for this game and he has not started since back in 2017 while with the Denver Broncos.

The Browns come into this game after losing at home in their season opener to the Tennessee Titans 43-13. The game was closer than the score indicates, as the Browns were in the game until the 4th quarter where in four drives Baker Mayfield was picked off three times.

The Jets looked like they had a win in the bag in their opening game at home against the Buffalo Bills but could not hold a 16-0 lead and were outscored 14-0 in the fourth quarter in the 17-16 loss.

These teams faced off last season in Cleveland where the Browns beat the Jets 21-17.

Mayfield passed for 285 yards in the loss to the Titans and the WR duo of Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry combined for 138 receiving yards. Mayfield was pressured all game and was sacked five times behind a suspect offensive line that may be the weak link on the Cleveland team. Nick Chubb led the Browns with 75 rushing yards and averaging 4.4 yards per carry.

The Jets offense did not look great in the loss to Buffalo and now they are playing their backup QB. In his much anticipated debut for New York Le’Veon Bell rushed for 60 yards while only averaging 3.5 yards per carry and he also had 32 receiving yards. The Jets may look to go to the ground more often in this game with Darnold on the sidelines.

Siemian was a 7th round draft pick in the 2015 going to the Broncos and in his career has passed for 2,285 yards with 12 TD and 14 INT.

The Browns’ defense gave up 213 passing yards and 126 rushing yards in their loss to Tennessee and even though they lost by 30 points they outgained the Titans 346 yards to 339 yards.

Cleveland has a killer upcoming schedule with four games in their next five where they face playoff teams from last season including playing the Rams and Patriots.
