How will the Rajasthan Royals go in 2018?

Australia’s Steve Smith was the only player retained by Rajasthan Royals for the coming season. The franchise went for big players in 2018 IPL auction was England’s Ben Stokes was bought for a whopping price of Rs 12.5 crore. Left-arm quick Jaydev Unadkat was also bagged by the franchise for a price of Rs 11.5 crore for the coming season. Unadkat made a big impact for Rising Pune Supergiants last year with the ball. Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer and D’Arcy Short are players that will certainly add value to the franchise for the coming season.

Steve Smith has been sacked as captain of Rajasthan Royals for the coming season while Ajinkya Rahane will act as stand-in captain for the franchise. Shane Warne has been appointed as a mentor for the franchise for the coming season.

Royals also have a strong group of local players such as Stuart Binny, Rahul Tripathi, Sanju Samson and Dhawal Kulkarni that help the franchise go the distance in this year’s competition.

Sanju Samson and Rahul Tripathi are promising players in the middle order for Rajasthan for this year’s competition. They performed exceedingly well for their franchises last season. Samson played was the leading run-scorer for Delhi Daredevils with 386 runs from 14 matches. Tripathi also was splendid in last year’s competition for Rising Pune Supergiants with 391 runs from 14 matches.

Captain Steve Smith is the premier batsman for Rajasthan Royals. He scored a lot of runs for his previous franchise Rising Pune and helped them qualify for the finals of the competition. Smith scored 472 runs from 15 matches with three half-centuries to his name in 2017 Indian Premier League. Rajasthan Royals have suffered a big blow as Steve Smith will miss this season after handed-out 12 month by Cricket Australia after being found guilty of ball-tampering against South Africa in third game at Cape Town.

Ajinkya Rahane is also a bankable player with the bat at the top of the innings and will be keen to produce a lot of runs for the franchise. Rahane will hold the key for the side in the absence of Smith who is banned from playing from international cricket.

Talismanic all-rounder Ben Stokes produced scintillating performances with the bat and ball in his first stint in the Indian Premier League. He will be the one player to watch out for in this year’s competition after picked by Royals for a big price in 2018 IPL auction. Stokes is world’s best all-rounder in world cricket and has the ability to single-handedly win games of cricket for his side.

Opposition bowlers will have no respite against Royals with England’s Jos Buttler coming late in the batting lineup. The wicket-keeper batsman has been in superb form and would be keen to make an impression for his new side in this year’s competition.

Rajasthan Royals have made some interesting choices in terms of bowling department for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League. The likes of Dhawal Kulkarni, Jaydev Unadkat and Gowtham Krishnappa will be crucial for Royals in the competition. Ben Laughlin and Jofra Archer also will be keen to make an impact with the bat after being picked in 2018 IPL auction. The franchise seems to have covered all the bases and would be keen to produce their best cricket in this year’s competition.
