US Open Semi Final

US Open Semi Final
The semifinals are set in the US Open and the usual suspects, except Roger Federer, have advanced with the lone surprise being 21st seed, Kei Nishikori.

On the women’s side of the draw it is no surprise that Serena Williams advanced, but Madison Keys is the highest seeded women left and she is on the 14th seed.

After previewing the first two semi finals yesterday, we’re back to finish off the job here:

Leg 1 – Kei Nishikori vs. Novak Djokovic

Nishikori advanced to his third US open semifinal with a thrilling 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-4 win over seventh seed Marin Cilic in the quarterfinals. Djokovic had an easier time in the quarters dispatching of unseeded John Millman, who took out King Roger in the fourth round.

Djokovic has had Nishikori’s number in all time meetings winning 14 of the 16 matches facing him including his last 12. However, while Nishikori has not beaten joker since 2014 the win came at the U.S. Open. These players have met three times this season and the last time they faced off it was at Wimbledon where Djokovic won in four sets.

$1.30 does not give the best payout for Djokovic to win the first set, but it is better than $1.22 for him to win outright. In the last two matches between these players neither was won by Djokovic in straight sets.

Djokovic has been pretty dominant in the tournament, as he was won the first set in every match with the closest first set being 6-3. After his 2nd round match went four sets he has won his last three matches in straight sets.

In the match against Nishikori only hit 57% of his first serves and that will not cut it facing Djokovic. This match may be a long one, but Djokovic will jump out early taking the advantage by winning the first set jumping on Nishikori’s 2nd serve.

Tip: Djokovic to win first set – -333.33 at Bovada

Leg 2 – Madison Keys vs. Naomi Osaka

Osaka was more than impressive in her quarterfinals match with a dominating 6-1, 6-1 win over unseeded Lesia Tsurenko. However, she has lost both of her career matches facing Keys and this is her first appearance in a Grand Slam semifinal.

Keys lost in the finals last year at the U.S. Open, so she is no stranger to the big stage. She took out 30th seed Carla Suarez Navarro 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals and she has won four of her five matches in the tournament, including her last two, in straight sets. Besides that, the American will have the crowd on her side and she is the crowd favorite with fellow American and defending U.S. Open champion Sloan Stephens out of the tournament.

Osaka’s serve was stellar in her last match where she only lost seven points on serve the entire match. She will not be as dominant in that area in this match facing Keys, who is solid at return of serve. Osaka will have nerves never playing at a Slam semifinals before and Keys will take advantage of that and win advancing to the finals of the U.S. Open for a 2nd straight year.

Tip: Keys to win – -151.52 at Bovada
