The Carolina Panthers head to the City of Brotherly Love to face off with the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
It is still pretty early in the season, but this NFL matchup has playoff implications and NFL punters should take advantage of all the betting options available, as there are many.
Turnovers killed the Panthers in their last game losing on the road to the Washington Redskins 23-17. They had three turnovers in the first half and they allowed the Skins to take a 17-0 lead. Carolina had their two-game win streak snapped with the loss to Washington and they sit in second place in the NFC South behind the 4-1 Saints.
Came Newton had a good passing game against Washington, but the Panthers are a run-first team. They rank 4th in the league in rushing yards per game, but only had 81 rushing yards in the loss to Washington. In the two games Newton has had the most passing yards Carolina has lost both times.
The Eagles beat the New York Giants in their last game 34-13 and the defending champions have really yet to look like the team that won the Super Bowl last season. They have yet to beat a team with a winning record and the three teams they have beaten this season have a combined total of only four wins.
Last season these NFC teams met in Carolina where the Eagles beat the Panthers 28-23.
This season the Panthers are 2-3 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 3-2 with the Eagles at 2-4 ATS with an Over/Under record of 3-3.
The favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last five games between these teams and the Eagles have covered in five of their last seven games facing the Panthers.
The Panther had two fumbles and one interception in the loss to Washington and they outgained the Redskins 350-288. One they spotted the Skins 17 points Carolina played good defense the rest of the way and they had a chance to go ahead late in the 4th quarter, but lost the ball on downs and Washington ran out the clock. Newton had the 2nd most passing yards in a game this season with 275 and he had two touchdowns and one interception. Devin Funchess led the team with 76 receiving yards and Newton spread the wealth with five different players having at least 43 receiving yards.
Christian McCaffrey only rushed for 20 yards (2.5 yards per carry) against the Redskins with Newton leading the team with 43 rushing yards. Overall, Carolina only had 81 rushing yards and they need to get back to the run in this game. Or do they? The Eagles rank second in the NFL in run defense, but only rank 23rd in pass defense.
In Philadelphia’s last win over the Giants they only had 22 more total yards, but they were over 50% converting third downs while they held New York to 4/14 on third down. Wentz had three TD and 275 passing yards with the wide receiver duo of Nelson Agholor and Alshon Jeffery combining for 165 receiving yards. Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement combined for 94 of the 108 rushing yards in the game for the Eagles and neither averaged over four yards per carry.
Carolina ranks 15th in the NFL in both pass defense and run defense. It is key they do not get down big early, like in the loss to the Redskins, as they need to pound the ball on the ground early and often.

Ok, so the Panthers are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and the Eagles are 5-1 ATS in their last six games after a straight up win of over 14 points. Look for those trends to continue in this NFC matchup.
This game will be pretty close, but at home Wentz will lead the Eagles to their second straight win, handing Carolina their second straight loss, and they will cover the spread.
