Diego Costa scoring specials & tips – Iran vs. Spain World Cup betting

Iran v Spain

Iran v Spain

Iran are scheduled to take on Spain on Wednesday night in the South Western City of Kazan in Group B of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The match will be the second of the group, and perhaps the most significant, as it comes after Portugal’s bout with Morocco.

The Iranian national football team head into the encounter as the unlikely group leaders, having reaped maximum points from their opening match with African representatives Morocco.

Despite being heavy favorites in the build up to the match, Herve Renard’s charges labored to get past an adept and resolute Iranian side; an undoing they came to rue after Team Melli stole the winner in the last minute of injury time – albeit through an own goal.

Substitute Aziz Bouhaddouz bizarrely headed the ball past his own goalkeeper in an attempt to shepherd it to safety after Iran took on a free-kick; the 31-year old left distraught with no realistic time left for marshalling a comeback given the prolonged celebrations after the goal.

The result came as a sting in the tail of Morocco, who on top of sustaining their first defeat in the last nineteen games, now have the monumental task of winning against Spain and Portugal in order to suffice for a place in the knock out stages of the tournament.

Iran may currently sit at the summit of the group, but their true mettle will be tested when they line up against European powerhouse Spain. La Furia Roja are joint second in the group after a swashbuckling 3-3 draw with Portugal in their opening match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign.

Spain suffered an early setback through a well dispatched Cristiano Ronaldo penalty, but Diego Costa hauled them back into the match will a goal of his own six minutes before the half hour mark.

Ronaldo was at it again before the break after the Spanish number one committed a howler, but Costa ensured Spain were hot in the heels of Portugal with his second goal coming on the tenth minute after the restart.

The tables turned when Nacho grabbed the lead for Spain but the cat and mouse game still continued to the very end, with Ronaldo hogging all the headlines with a sublime free-kick late in the second half to complete his hat-trick.

It was by all accounts an energy sapping encounter; the ultimate exhibition for any indoctrinated football supporter.

With the hardest job of the group already behind them, Spain will be adamant to return back to winning ways when they line up against Iran, with the full knowledge that Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo will put on a show against Morocco in the other group match.

Even though it was poised to be a stern test, the incomparable Diego Costa still opened his goal scoring account of the tournament with a brace against Portugal.

The former Chelsea striker is level on goals scored in the tournament with Denis Cheryshev, Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku – all behind Cristiano Ronaldo who put three past Spain.

Given that Team Melli aren’t particularly exceptional at the back, the self-assertive Spaniard could further buoy his goal tally in the match.

Iran vs. Spain betting predictions

Iran gave a good account of themselves against Morroco but the Asian outfit hasn’t faced a test yet quite like Spain, seeing as La Furia Roja are adept with a passing cavalier that is a far cry from theirs.

They may have forced Morocco into mistakes but their attacking potency may significantly dry up against a well drilled, technically gifted Spanish side.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup has had its fair share of surprises, but this fixture won’t be one of them unfortunately.
