Kariobangi Sharks will be on the road on Tuesday afternoon where they are scheduled to face Kakamega Homeboyz at the Bukhungu Stadium in the Kenyan Premier League.
Having been downed 2-0 by Sofapaka last weekend, Kariobangi Sharks returned to winning ways during their midweek KPL encounter, as they emphatically breezed past Ulinzi Stars with a 3-1 win at the Moi International Sports Centre, in the nation’s capital.
The victory was inspired by one Sydney Lokale who scored a thrilling hat-trick during the Thursday afternoon encounter. The opener came in the 20th minute when Lokale shrewdly evaded his markers before stabbing the ball past James Saruni and into the back of the net.
His second goal was quite the treat, one that will undoubtedly contend strongly for goal of the season, as the “tormentor” shimmered his way through the Ulinzi backline before doubling the advantage five minutes into the restart.
The striker then once again sneaked behind Ulinzi’s defense, making no mistakes as he beat Saruni to complete his hat-trick midway through the second half.
Enosh Ochieng, who had began the day on the bench, salvaged one back for the visitors in the 74th minute, but Lokale’s regal performance during the opening hour ensured there was no way back for the Soldiers who ended the match with ten men after the late sending off of Omar Mbongi.
Although Kariobangi were in their element, defensive lapses by the 4-time KPL champions greatly favored their cause; something Ulinzi head coach Dunstan Nyaudo was quick to condemn at the final whistle.
The victory elevated Sharks to seventh on the standings with 18 points—seven points behind leaders Mathare United.
Kariobangi have gone on to become a household name in the Kenyan Premier League since earning promotion to the top flight two years ago. Finishing third on the log on their debut season and drawing back three places on the table last season seemed to suffice for a relatively new team in the top division, but there is a not doubt as to what their biggest accomplishment is.
Kariobangi became only the second team after Gor Mahia to secure a match with English Premier League side Everton, as they beat Bandari by a solitary goal in the all-Kenyan final to clinch the 2019 edition of the SportPesa Super Cup two weeks ago.
Kakamega Homeboyz on the other hand settled for a draw for the fourth time in six league games, as they drew 0-0 away to Chemelil Sugar during their midweek KPL encounter.
Kakamega Homeboyz vs. Kariobangi Sharks betting prediction
Kariobangi Sharks are seventh on the table whereas Kakamega Homeboyz are tenth; with four points separating both sides.
Whereas Homeboyz have for some strange reason always gotten the better or Kariobangi, William Mluhya’s charges are currently in the best possible condition to disrupt this unforgiving norm.
