Betting Line: Chiefs -2.5
Over/Under: 53.5 points at 888 Sportsbook
The Kansas City Chiefs will look to shrug off their recent disappointment and hit the NFL playoffs at full pace when they take on the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
The Chiefs are still he #1 seed in the AFC with two games remaining, but they are coming off a loss to the L.A. Chargers, who they are tied with atop the AFC West with the same record. Kansas City has the offense, but their defense has been less than stellar all season ranking second to last in the NFL in overall defense. Still, they have MVP front running QB Patrick Mahomes under center and a dynamic offense, but the team has not been dominant like they have earlier this season.
The Seahawks are coming off an OT loss to the San Francisco 49ers in their last game. They had won four in a row previous to that loss, which cost them a playoff berth. Seattle is in good shape for the post-season only having to win one more game, but they could also get some help from some other losses in the NFC down the stretch. The Seahawks no longer have a dominant defense (ranking 19th in the league), but they have a good run game and Russell Wilson knows how to win come crunch time.
These teams have not faced off since the 2014 season.
This season the Chiefs are 8-5-1 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 9-4-1 with the Seahawks are at 8-4-2 ATS with an Over/Under record of 7-8.
While these teams have not faced off in a few years the Chiefs have covered the spread in seven of their last eight games against the Seahawks.
In their last game, the Chiefs were at home and lost to the L.A. Chargers 29-28. They lost the game on a two-point conversion that they could not stop and for the game there outgained in yards 407-294. The Chifs have to get back to lighting up the scorebaord to compensate for their struggling defense.
In the loss to the Chargers Patrick Mahomes had 243 passing yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. The team has missed Kareem Hunt, who was released a few weeks back, but with Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelse, Mahomes has the weapons. Damien Williams rushed for 49 yards in the loss to L.A and he and the other running backs have to step it up to help the offense.
The Seahawks have a tall order containing Mahomes with their 20th ranked pass defense and their run defense has been mediocre ranking 15th in the league.
The Seahawks were in the City by the Bay in their last game losing to the San Francisco 49ers 26-23 in overtime. They had more overall yards (385-351), more rushing yards (168-94), and were nearly 50% on 3rd down conversions they still took their first loss in four games.
Russell Wilson had 237 passing yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and running back Chris Carson rushed for 119 yards. Seattle has a pretty good wide receiver corps, but they are a run first team that likes to pound the ball. Carson has rushed for 119 and 90 yards, respectively, in his last two games.
The Chiefs only ranks 26th in the league defending the run and their pass defense ranks dead last.
