Surprise starters Western Stima will be on the road this weekend when they visit Kariobangi Sharks in the SportPesa Kenyan Premier League.
The Sunday afternoon encounter will take place at the Kenyatta Stadium in Masaku.
Stima have made a soaring start to the 2018/19 KPL season, as they are currently level on 14 points with leaders Mathare United; only behind the 2008 champions on the log on goal difference. As is often the case for most clubs returning back to top flight football, Western Stima were expected to struggle on their return to the KPL after a season long hiatus. Instead, the power men have taken to the league like they never left, arguably stronger than they were two years ago.
Although they haven’t exactly lived up to the flamboyance they exhibited when they lifted the National Super League trophy last season, Stima have thus far been prowling over the finish line rather than powering over. Such was the case when Paul Ogai’s charges faced a stern test at the Chemelil Sports Complex last Sunday, as they only managed to squeeze out a 1-0 win over Chemelil Sugar. The only goal of the encounter was a towering header scored by defender David Ojuang’ ten minutes to stoppage time.
Stima could have been off to a third successive draw had it not been for the brilliant instinctive saves made by goalkeeper Samuel Odhiambo towards the tail end of the match.
Kariobangi Sharks on the other hand could only manage a one-all draw away to Kenya Commercial Bank last weekend. After a relatively quiet first half, midfielder Vincent Wasambo put the visitors ahead nine minutes into the restart but Benson Amianda drew the Bankers level in the 72nd minute.
Sharks head coach William Muluya was left bemoaning his side’s profligacy on both ends of the pitch, as the Shield Cup holders have now won only one of their last five games in all competitions.
Kariobangi Sharks vs. Western Stima betting prediction
The unbeaten run of Kariobangi Sharks and Western Stima will be put to the test this weekend, as the two—alongside Mathare United and Bandari—are the only sides yet to taste defeat in the KPL this season.
A draw will be the best result for both sides, although Stima have what it takes to run away with all three points.
