Man Utd v Wolves week 6

Man Utd v Wolves week 6

Manchester United will be returning to Old Trafford this weekend after spending their last three games in all competitions on the road.

United have had a testing run against Burnley, Watford and Young Boys- all of which they emerged victorious- and will endeavor to register another regal outcome when they play host to Wolverhampton Wanderers this Saturday in the English Premier League.

The Red devils made a midweek Champions League trip to the highly mountainous Swiss capital; albeit against a lowly rated Young Boys side. It was by and large a memorable trip for Jose Mourinho’s charges, as they put up a princely performance to win 3-0 in their opening match of Group H.

Paul Pogba in particular was at his resplendent best, as the World Cup winner exhibited a Man of the Match performance by scoring twice and providing an assist in the rout. United were expected to be dominant from the offset, but the visitors had to wait until the 35th minute for their opening salvo.

Pogba- who was once again entrusted with the captain’s armband in the absence of Antonio Valencia- had a nice interchange with Fred down the inside-left channel from whence he blasted an utterly glorious left-footed strike, leaving Von Ballmoos will no chance of stopping it.

Luke Shaw put up another inspiring performance on his return to the starting line-up, as his cross from his template full-back run on the left wing struck the arm of Kevin Mbabu, resulting in a United penalty right at the stroke of half time. Pogba stepped up and lashed a seamless strike into the top right corner; one that the Swiss goalkeeper would have stopped had it not been for the sheer power behind it.

The France international rounded off his impressive individual display by galloping down the middle of the park after pouncing onto a loose ball, before setting up Anthony Martial who squeezed it in just for good measure. It was a confident and assured win for Manchester United; one that hauled them to top of the group ahead of Juventus on goal difference.

Their opponents for the weekend, Wolverhampton Wanderers, did just enough in their last outing, as they beat Burnley at the Molineux Stadium last weekend in the Premier League. Known for their solid defensive organization and fervent fighting spirit, Wolves only needed a solitary goal scored by Raul Jimenez in the 61st minute to secure all three points against the Clarets.

Wolves will certainly not be moved by Manchester United’s recent run of form, as they have already frustrated the likes of Everton and Manchester City thus far into the campaign.

Jose Mourinho doesn’t have as many injury concerns to contend with as he did at the start of the season, although the Portuguese will still be without the defensive duo of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo who are out with injuries.

Ander Herrera remains a doubt after the midfielder sustained an injury in training last week, but Nemanja Matic and Marcus Rashford- who were both in the starting eleven against Young Boys- are guaranteed absentees as they continue to serve their domestic red card suspensions.

Antonio Valencia is however poised to skipper the side this Saturday, after his precautionary omission from the midweek European trip to Switzerland due to the artificial pitch at the Stade de Suisse that could have caused complications to his recurring knee injury.

Nuno Esperito Santo in stark contrast has a clean bill of health, and as such looks set to field the same starting line-up for the sixth successive match in the Premier League.

Manchester United vs. Wolverhampton match prediction

After a six year inglorious hiatus from the Premier League, Wolves have made an inspired return to the top flight as they sit ninth on the log having picked up eight points from their first five matches. In fact, Nuno’s side is only a point adrift of United who haven’t made the brightest of starts this season.

Jose Mourinho however ended Watford’s impressive run of four successive wins at the start of the campaign, and could very well hand Wolves only their second defeat of the Premier League campaign.
