Betting Line: Miami -4
Over/Under: 48 points at 888 Sportsbook

The Miami Hurricanes will meet the Wisconsin Badgers in the Pinstripe Bowl, ready to settle one last score before saying goodbye to 2018.

While these teams met in a big bowl last season in the Orange Bowl, this is a lesser bowl game but still a great matchup.

Both teams went 7-5 on the season in what was a disappointing season for both.

Miami had a bad start to the 2nd half of the season losing four straight games, but they did rebound and win their last two. Their last two wins were impressive as well, as both teams they beat are playing in bowl games and they only gave up a total of 17 points. The Hurricanes are led by the nation’s 2mnd ranked defense and their defense is vital, as they are not a high scoring and only rank 92nd in the nation in total offense.

Wisconsin lost four of their last seven games including their season finale and they are underdogs in this bowl game. They have one of the best running backs in the nation in Jonathan Taylor, who rushed for 1,989 yards this season with 15 TD. He is already in the 2019 Heisman discussion. To say the Badgers were balanced this season would be an understatement, as they ranked 41st in the nation in both overall offense and overall defense.

This is a rematch of the Orange Bowl from last season where Wisconsin beat Miami 34-24.

This season Miami is 7-5 SU with an ATS record of 5-7`and an O/U record of 5-6-1 and Wisconsin is 7-5 SU with an ATS record of 3-9 and an O/U record of 6-6.

In their last game of the regular season Miami shined on defense in beating a ranked Pittsburgh team 24-3. They outgained the Panthers 345 yards to 200 yards and they only gave up 69 rushing yards in the game. Miami ranks 24th in the nation in run defense and if they can contain Taylor, which is no easy task, they will be in good shape in this bowl game in the Big Apple.

Miami quarterback N’Kosi Perry did not have the best game in the finale only going 6/24 for 52 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. The Canes rely on the run, most of the time, only ranking 108th in the nation in passing offense. Miami racked up 293 rushing yards in the win over Pitt with Travis Homer having a big game rushing for 168 yards and a touchdown. He led the Canes in rushing yards on the season and had only totaled 99 rushing yards in two straight games before blowing up in the win over Pittsburgh.

Like Miami the run defense will be vital for the Badgers and they rank 57th in the nation defending the run.

Wisconsin lost their season finale falling to Minnesota 37-15 even though they had more overall yards. They outgained the Golden Gophers 359 yards to 325 yards, but they turned the ball over four times and did not force one turnover. The Badgers also gave up 200 rushing yards, which has to be a concern facing Miami.

Alex Hornibrook passed for 189 yards with two touchdowns in the loss to Minnesota, but also had three interceptions. He has been plagued by the turnover and in his last four games he had nine of them and at least two in every one. Taylor rushed for 120 yards averaging a legit 6.3 yards per carry, but being down big they had to go to the air to try to comeback and that, obviously, did not work. The Badgers cannot let that happen in this game, as Miami has the nation’s top-ranked pass defense.

Taylor rushed for over 100 yards in 11 of 12 games this season and in the game previous to the loss to Minnesota he ran ragged for 321 rushing yards and three TD.

Miami vs. Wisconsin betting prediction

Last season in the Orange Bowl Taylor rushed for 130 yards and averaged five yards per carry. The Badgers will not get down big early in this bowl game and because of that they will ride Taylor early and often.

He will have a big game despite playing a solid Miami defense and in a close Pinstripe Bowl, Wisconsin may not win, but they will cover the spread.
