Poland vs. Senegal draw odds & tips – 2018 FIFA World Cup betting

Poland v Senegal

Senegal are poised to mark their return on the global stage with an opening match against Poland in Group H of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The bout- which will be the final encounter in the first round of group stage matches- will be played on Tuesday evening at Spartak Stadium in the Russian capital. The first match of the group will see Colombia take of Japan in what should be an explosive encounter.

Senegal have reinstated themselves as a powerhouse on the continental stage, having been the only African team alongside Tunisia and Morocco to qualify for the global extravaganza without a single defeat in the Third Round of qualifiers. The West Africans led Group D of the African qualifiers on 14 points, five points ahead of Burkina Faso who finished second on the log.

The Lions of Teranga will be staging an appearance at the World Cup finals for only the second time in their history; the first coming in 2002 in Korea/Japan where they made a groundbreaking debut by reaching the quarterfinals.

Senegal survived the qualifiers unscathed due to the tactical brilliance of head coach Aliou Cisse who became the first Senegalese to lead the team to the World Cup finals – given their first appearance was under the tutelage of Frenchman Bruno Metsu.

Cisse harbors a wealth of experience from his playing days, as he was a key member of Bruno Metsu’s squad that registered a fairytale campaign in Korea/Japan fourteen years ago.

Poland have every reason to fancy their chances of progressing into the knock out stages of the competition after registering a decent run in Euro 2016; one that ended with a 5-3 defeat on post-match penalties in the quarterfinals – a loss sustained against eventual champions Portugal.

The weight of expectation for an entire nation however rests on the shoulders of one Robert Lewandowski; the biggest football export Poland has seen in recent years. The 29-year old had yet another high flying season with Bayern Munich, as he scored 34 League goals that inspired the Bavarians to their seventh consecutive Bundesliga title.

Poland booked their ticket to Russia after convincingly topping Group E of the UEFA qualifiers with 25 points, five points above Denmark who still qualified for the FIFA World Cup after a 5-1 aggregate win over Ireland in the Second Round play-off.

Senegal have a clean bill of health heading into their opening match, whereas Adam Nawalka has concerns over the fitness of central defender Kamil Glik. Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jakub Błaszczykowski only recently returned from a lengthy injury spell and may as a result be viable enough for the bench, while Wojciech Szczesny may stand strong between the sticks, despite being a peripheral figure for Juventus last season.

Senegal vs. Poland betting predictions

Poland have the tendency of using Robert Lewandowski as the lone striker, but the Bayern forward may have it far from easy, as Aliou Cisse looks certain to line up with a solid back four, shielded the middle of the park by the likes of Cheikhou Kouyate of West Ham United and Everton’s Idrissa Gueye.

The services of Sadio Mane will certainly be called upon upfront, with the hope that the Liverpool forward can continue with his rich vein of form that saw him score 20 goals for the Reds last season; including ten in the UEFA Champions League.
