Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma Sooners Red River rivalry spread tips
Texas vs. Oklahoma – 12:00 PM EST, Saturday, October 6, at Cotton Bowl, Dallas, TX
Betting Line: Oklahoma 7.5
Over/Under: 60.5 points at 888 Sportsbook
In the annual Red River rivalry game held in Dallas, the seventh-ranked Oklahoma Sooners face the 19th-ranked Texas Longhorns in a classic NCAA contest for football lovers and bettors to sink their teeth into.
Texas has been down for a few seasons and the start of this one did not look good. They lost on the road to an unranked Maryland team, but the Longhorns bounced back and have won two in a row including beating a couple of top 25 teams. Texas has needed a signature win in a while and they can get them if they can win this Big 12 encounter.
Oklahoma is undefeated, but they have not had the toughest schedule with no wins over ranked teams. Still, they rank eighth in the nation in points per game and they are coming off a game where they lit up the scoreboard for 66 points. However, the defense has not been a dominant unit and the Sooners have given up at least 21 points in each of their last five games.
This season Texas is 4-1 SU with an ATS record of 2-3 and an O/U record of 2-3 and Oklahoma is 5-0 with an ATS record of 2-3 and an O/U record of 4-1.
Texas has covered the spread in their last five games against Oklahoma.
Texas is coming off a 19-14 win over Kansas State, where the Longhorns snapped a five-game road losing streak. They mainly won the game because of their defense, which held Kansas State to only 217 total yards.
The Longhorns only had 339 total yards in the win over Kansas State, but they were balanced. Sam Ehlinger passed for 207 yards with a touchdown and an interception and three players had at least 43 receiving yards. Keaontay Ingram led the team with 68 rushing yards and averaged a solid 6.8 yards per carry. Ehlinger will be key in this game, as the Sooners only rank 95th in the nation defending the pass and in their last game they gave up 416 passing yards.
Oklahoma is coming off a 66-33 thrashing of Baylor in their last game where they racked up 607 yards. They shut down the run on defense, but did give up 416 passing yards. Kyler Murray had a HUGE game passing for 432 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions and Marquise Brown and CeeCee Lamb combined for 233 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Kennedy Brooks rushed for 107 yards in the win over Baylor with Murray chiming in for 45 yards. Trey Sermon leads Oklahoma with 294 rushing yards, but only had 19 yards on eight carries in the Baylor game.
This game does not match up well on defense for Texas, as their secondary has been their main issue on the season. The Longhorns have a good run defense, but their pass defense ranks 63rd in the nation.

Texas vs. Oklahoma betting prediction
Would love to take Texas in this game in their quest to get back to being in the national conversation, but that will not happen.
Oklahoma has not played great defense this season, but their offense has been lights out. They have the weapons and while their schedule has not been a tough one they have gotten it done on both sides of the ball.
The Longhorns will give the Sooners a game and they will not lose badly, but they will lose.
Oklahoma will stay in the ranks of the unbeaten with a win in the Red River game and hand Texas a tough 2nd loss.
