Liverpool v Fulham EPL
Liverpool will be hoping to return back to winning ways against Fulham this weekend after a dispirited midweek outing in the Champions League against Red Star Belgrade.

The Reds, who were forlornly exposed when they were subjected to a 2-0 defeat in the Serbian capital, will be licking their lips ahead of welcoming bottom-placed Fulham to Anfield, in what will be the first kickoff match on the EPL’s Super Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp’s charges had every reason to be beaming with confidence heading into Belgrade, as they had flogged the Serbian SuperLiga holders 4-0 during the first leg in Merseyside. Despite having the motive of securing a win, one that could have seen them go three points clear at the top of Group C given that Napoli had a decisive duel with Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool’s soft underbelly was staggeringly manifested.

The visitors, against the run of play, went behind in the 21st minute through a Milan Pavkov goal. Although they had already proven in the competition how much of a threat they can pose in set plays, Liverpool were still inept in their defensive organization, as they allowed Pavkov to get on the finishing end of Marko Marin’s corner kick with a flying header.

Shaken and rattled by the goal considering how well they were in control of proceedings, the Reds were made to rue an earlier chance missed by Daniel Sturridge, as Pavkov doubled the advantage for his side eight minutes later.

Liverpool were caught out in the middle of the park; allowing the Serbian forward to make a powerful run before guiding a sensation long range strike past Alisson Becker and into the back of the net.

It goes without saying that the visitors went out of their way in a daring attempt to get something out of the match, but hitting the woodwork twice in the second half was the closest they ever came to finding a goal in the encounter.

The victory was imperiously Red Star Belgrade’s tenth clean sheet in their past 15 home games in Europe. Qualification dynamics in the group were further changed as Napoli held visiting PSG to a 1-1 draw; setting precedent for a vicious brawl in the race for the Round of 16, seeing as all four teams in the group are separated by only two points.

Fulham are increasingly looking like a side doomed to make a quick return to the Championship after they suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Huddersfield Town on Monday night. Timothy Fosu-Mensah, on loan from Manchester United, got on the wrong end of the scoreboard as his headed own goal right before the half hour mark proved to be the winner for the hosts.

Albeit fortuitous, David Wagner welcomed the three points with open arms, as it was only his first win in the current Premier League campaign. Defeat however meant that the Lilywhites are still at the foot of the table on five points after eleven matches, nevertheless separated from the last seven teams by a meager three points heading into the weekend.

Klopp, who has been short on midfield options over the last few games, could welcome the return of Naby Keita into the first xi after the Guinea international made it to the bench during the midweek Champions League defeat.

Unable to stage an appearance last weekend during the one-all draw away to Arsenal as earlier projected, skipper Jordan Henderson could be closing in on a return from a hamstring problem.

Rhian Brewster and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will however stretch their spells on the sidelines, as they are yet to recover from their long term injuries.

Other than Joe Bryan who is still out for Fulham with a hamstring problem, Slavisa Jokanovic has no pending injury concerns ahead of their trip to Anfield.

Liverpool vs. Fulham betting predictions

Liverpool maintained their unbeaten run in the Premier League this season following a 1-1 draw with Arsenal last weekend. This only heightens the tension to see who will blink first in the race for the crown, as Chelsea and leaders Manchester City are similarly unbeaten thus far in the EPL.

Jurgen Klopp’s side may have been defeated on Tuesday night, but the Reds could quite rightly unload all their frustrations on Fulham this weekend.
