Manchester City vs Chelsea

An end to terror is preferable to terror without an end but for Arsenal, the terror will only end with Arsene Wenger’s inevitable departure from the club. Manchester City condemned the Gunners to a second defeat in five days by a similar margin, courtesy of three quick goals by Bernado Silva, David Silva and Leroy Sane.

Arsenal’s defense was creaking and leaking goals, the polar opposite of Pep Guardiola’s side which has put six unanswered goals past the North Londoners in the last two games.

The epitome of the home side’s frustrations was however highlighted soon after the interval when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fluffed his lines after Henrikh Mkhitaryan did well to win a penalty.

With a large sum of supporters using the cold weather as an excuse not to witness another deplorable performance, Petr Cech unable to reach his 200th clean sheet yet again, and a side low on confidence and evidently afraid of their own shadows, Arsenal seems to be falling down a bottomless pit.

It is however in stark contrast to Manchester City whose emphatic win cemented their hold on the Premier League crown, by regaining their 16-point lead over second placed Manchester United on the standings.

Pep Guardiola’s plan at the Emirates worked to perfection, as the game was virtually wrapped by the halfway mark, with the Spaniard’s sights already in the crunching tie with Chelsea on Sunday.

A dynasty is without argument being formed in Manchester, but on the unorthodox sky blue side of Manchester. The Citizens have thus far been able to cope with the demanding volume of games, and it helps that players are battling it out for selection given their rich vein of form.

City could be onto something special, with some postulating that even the illusive treble is richly deserved. There is no putting a limit on this Manchester City side, which is why the City gaffer will have little or no qualms about the congested fixture.

Chelsea travel to Manchester for the second time in a week, this time round hoping to register a better outcome having sustained a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford on their last Premier League outing.

Chelsea’s problems have been well documented this season, and simply cannot be wished away. The Blues are likewise competing on three different fronts, with the FA Cup being their only realistic chance of securing silverware.

Even so, Leicester City will look to offer stern resistance when Antonio Conte, if still at the job, leads his charges to the King Power for the FA Cup quarter-final at the end of the month.

David Luiz and Tiemoue Bakayoko are set to miss the trip to the Etihad while Rose Barkley’s inclusion after returning to training may be on the cards for Chelsea.

Fernandinho missed the trip to London with a hamstring injury and as such remains sidelined for the hosts. Fabian Delph serves the last of his three-match suspension on Sunday and will therefore watch from the stands.

Manchester City vs. Chelsea match prediction

For a team that was, in effect, indestructible last season, you can’t help but wonder where the wheels started coming off. Well the Blues have conceded 25 goals in 28 matches, and their soft underbelly is precariously poised to be exposed against the most gifted attacking team on the land.

Although Chelsea are only two points shy of Tottenham Hotspur who occupy the last Champions League spot, the Blues face the harsh reality of drifting further away from a top four finish, seeing as they are starring down the barrel of another defeat in Manchester.

Prediction: Manchester City to win – -163.93 on William Hill
