The best basketball players in the world will go head-to-head in the 2019 NBA All Star game on Sunday night.

For the first time since 1991, the game will be hosted in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Continuing last year’s newest ruleset, the two Captains, LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo, drafted players from the available candidates, allowing more flexibility across the two conferences.

LeBron ultimately went with the players he knows best, drafting long-time team mates Dwayne Wade and Kyrie Irving, while also taking Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Bradley Beal.

Other picks from Team LeBron include Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, Damian Lillard, LaMarcus Aldridge, Karl Anthony-Towns and the newly acquired Ben Simmons, who was traded across the two teams.

Team Giannis made the final decision to send Simmons to Team LeBron for former MVP Russell Westbrook, pairing him with his OKC brother, Paul George. Giannis themed his team around his European background when selecting the likes of Nikola Jokic, Nikola Vucevic and Dirk Nowitzki.

A plethora of guards including Steph Curry, Kemba Walker, D’Angelo Russell and Kyle Lowry will handle the ball for Team Giannis, while looking to lob passes to big men Joel Embiid and Blake Griffen. Khris Middleton will make his first All Star appearance as a deadly shooter for Team Giannis, joining his Bucks team mate and captain, Antetokounmpo.

With all the talented players simultaneously on the court, one man will stand out above the rest as the MVP, here are our choices for the award.

NBA All Star Game most valuable player predictions

Team LeBron
James Harden @ +700

Not only is James Harden putting up numbers comparable to basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain, but he is known to give a crowd their money’s worth. The atmosphere of an All Star game suits the Rocket guard perfectly, especially if he gets a chance to impress with his dribbling and shooting. If Harden gets going early, be prepared for one of the highest-ever scoring totals in an All-Star match.

Kawhi Leonard @ +2500

The defensive monster recently moved from his original San Antonio Spurs, to the Toronto Raptors, giving him more of an opportunity to dominate matches and show his full array of skills. During All Star games defence is frowned upon, but the crowd still loves to see steals and blocks, a specialty of Kawhi Leonard. People often forget that Leonard can shoot extremely well, previously having a three point percentage on par with Curry.

Ben Simmons @ +8000

This Australian phenomenon is one of the dark horses to win the MVP. Given it will be his first All Star game and he will come off the bench, Simmons will need to utilise his time better than anyone else. Simmons will show off his court vision with flashy passes and may even pop a cheeky three pointer if left open.

Team Giannis

Joel Embiid @ +1100

Being the biggest player on the court this Sunday, Joel will be a threat in the paint for team Giannis, someone that will be used very often for quick scoring opportunities. With his massive dunks and occasional outside shooting prowess, Embiid shapes up to be a very valuable selection for the All Star MVP.

Paul George @ +1100

Of all the players named, Paul George is our favourite selection. No player is in better form on both ends of the court, especially as a small forward. George once shot the ball tremendously well in an All Star match, posting a 41-point total, only one shy of the record held by Wilt Chamberlain. If he can emulate that previous performance, he could come close in this market.

Nikola Jokic @ +8000

The Serbian Joker is another dark horse in the betting. With his court vision and countless tricks, the format suits Jokic beautifully. The Joker is firming as a valuable option for Team Giannis.

All Star Game predictions

Game Winner: Team LeBron @ -294.12
Spread Betting Tip: Team LeBron (-6.5) @ -108.7
Game Points Total: Over 300.5 @ -109.89

With the newest trend in the NBA being the three point shot, team LeBron appears to be invincible.

James Harden, alongside Kevin Durant, will be a dynamic pair that could drop 30-points each. Kawhi Leonard on defence with LeBron leading the way will also be a sight to behold. Do not forget that Klay Thompson is one of the best shooters ever and will come off the bench.

Team Giannis has its strengths, but on this occasion, the use of outside shooting will be too much for the Greek Freak to handle.
