MLB inks deal MGM Resorts to become official gaming partner

MLB MGM
MAJOR League Baseball became the latest major US professional sport to team up with MGM Resorts International on Tuesday, inking a deal to make the gambling giant its ‘official gaming partner’.

After signing agreements with the NBA and NHL in recent months, the MLB was MGM’s next logical target.

The deal includes access to league logos and official data for use in sports betting operations. MGM will be the only bookmaker operator with access to the league’s “enhanced statistics.”

The move has followed continual calls for the individual sporting codes to beef up their integrity unit and forge a meaningful relationship with bookmakers, to share data and track irregular betting patterns.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred expressed his excitement after signing the deal.

“We are pleased to partner with MGM Resorts International, a clear industry leader in the sports gaming area, to work together on bringing innovative experiences to baseball fans and MGM customers,” Manfred said.

“Our partnership with MGM will help us navigate this evolving space responsibly, and we look forward to the fan engagement opportunities ahead.”

MGM has casinos in three states with legal sports betting — Nevada, New Jersey and Mississippi. The casino resorts empire also has property in a number of states that may soon legalise sports betting, including New York.

Is the NFL next on MGM’s list? Time will tell.
