TWO of the NFL’s most recognisable franchises meet at Lombeau Field in an important game for both sides.

After a hot start, the New York Giants have fallen in a hole, culminating in a touchdown-less outing against the Minnesota Vikings last weekend.

The main issue for the Giants has been the attitude and output of their star receiver Odel Beckham Jr.

The Big Blue have played four games this season and OBJ is yet to score a touchdown, and his on-field and sideline outbursts have drawn the ire of the Giants after the pro bowler gave away multiple penalties throughout their last two matches.

Giants’ quarterback Eli Manning said Beckham Jr needs to stamp out the ill-discipline from his game if he is to get back to his best.

“He’s got to play smart,” said Manning.

“He can’t afford to do anything they’ll call. He’s kind of brought that upon himself, so he’s got to realise that…No doubt. Can’t afford the penalties.”

“(Having said that) I’m with him. I work extremely hard and I want to go out there and play well and move the ball and score touchdowns,

“It’s frustrating when it doesn’t go as smoothly … we’ve got to put it all together, and play to the level we’ve prepared and to our potential.”

The Giants’ opponents have had great success getting inside Beckham Jr’s head over the last fortnight of football, but it is not a tactic the Packers are looking to implement.

Green Bay cornerback Damarious Randall said he is sole focus is negating the impact of the mercurial wide receiver on the park.

“I don’t pay attention to all the off-the-field issues that’s going on with him, that (doesn’t have anything) to do with me,” Randall said.

“I’m just watching his film, and Beckham is a great, great receiver.”

If the Packers can keep OBJ out of the end zone in week five it will go a long way to ensuring a third victory from four outings.

Giants vs. Packers betting predictions

The Giants travel to Wisconsin to take on the Packers in week five of the NFL season in dire need of a win.

The match up will be the first game between the two sides since 2013.

After an early season bye the Green Bay Packers have a chance to record their third victory of the 2016/17 campaign against a team that has struggled in their last two outings.

The New York Giants are already out to $34 in the super bowl market at Sportsbet.com.au, and a loss on Sunday night could see those odds balloon out even further.

The biggest issue for the Packers will be containing the offensive threat of Odell Beckham Jr. The young receiver is in just his third season of NFL football but he is already the most important cog of their scoring machine.

Last week’s 23-yard effort was his lowest return in a single game since entering the NFL, but against a defence that has conceded 23 points or more in two of their three games in the form of the Packers, a season-first trip to the end zone could come this Sunday for OBJ.

Whether Beckham Jr has the ability to compartmentalise the criticism and let his play do the talking remains to be seen, but it seems the Giants’ chances on Sunday hinge on his ability to do so.

On the opposite side of the field, a step up is needed from former MVP Aaron Rodgers.

The Green Bay quarterback had career-low numbers in the opening two weeks of the season before throwing four touchdown passes in the opening half against the Lions in week three.

The 2011 and 2014 regular season MVP is on the second line of betting at Sportsbet.com.au to win a third most valuable player award at $7.50.

Rodgers will need to be at his brilliant best if the home side is to snap a three game losing streak against their opponents.

The Giants have dominated against the Packers in recent times, recording three double figure victories in a run that stretches back to 2012.

Despite the strong head-to-head record, history does not bode well for the Big Blue.

New York has failed to cover the line its past seven road games against teams that possess a winning home record. To compound this the Packers have covered 10 of their past 13 after a bye week.

We are expecting history to repeat on Sunday night. Back the Pack to cover the line.

Match prediction: Green Bay Packers to cover the -7.5 line ($1.99 at Sportsbet.com.au)
