New Hampshire is the latest US state to legalise sports betting, with Governor Chris Sununu signing a gambling reform bill into law late last week.

The legislation opens the door for retail sportsbooks as well as mobile sports betting, all to be regulated by the NH Lottery Commission.

Earlier drafts of the bill prohibited gambling on college sports and junior events, but the final version only forbids wagers on events involving New Hampshire schools.

New England is fast becoming a hotspot for sports betting activity, as Rhode Island already has sportsbooks in operation and Maine is well on the way towards legalisation.

Sports betting bill passes North Carolina legislature

Lawmakers in Raleigh have passed a bill that would allow sports betting at North Carolina’s tribal casinos.

Senator Jim Davis, one of the bill’s chief sponsors, believes the move would be a big boon for NC’s Native American communities.

“I’ve been a champion for expanding gaming opportunities for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians for years,” he said.

The Yellow Brick Road Casino in Chittenango will also have sportsbooks up and running in time for the start of the 2019 NFL season.

New York’s commercial gambling venues are also preparing to launch sports betting services.
