Nigeria vs. Libya AFCON qualifier scoring odds – free tips & analysis

Libya vs Nigeria AFCON

Libya vs Nigeria AFCONFriday, October 12 – 5:30p.m Local time – Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna State, Nigeria

With the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations drawing ever closer, the Nigeria national football team will be looking to ameliorate their position in Group E when they face Libya this weekend in the qualifiers.

The match, the third of six games in the group, will see the Super Eagles play host to Libya on Friday afternoon – with the bout penciled to take place at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Northwestern Nigeria.

Gernot Rohr’s team of thoroughbreds gave a very pleasant account of themselves in their last outing, as they came to the fore with an emphatic 3-0 victory away to Seychelles last month. The Super Eagles, in full knowledge that they had plenty of ground to cover, were off the tracks from the opening whistle, and were rewarded for their troubles by a goal at the quarter hour mark.

Ahmed Musa, who memorably came in clutch when he scored a brace during Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Iceland at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, put his side ahead with a venomous left-footed volley.

The goal without question took the wind out of Gavin Jeanne’s sails, as his strategy of sitting deep in blocks was further thwarted when the visitors doubled their advantage before the interval through Chidozie Awaziem. Kelechi Iheanacho’s well executed free-kick hit the foot of the crossbar but the FC Porto defender was there to force it in, eleven minutes before the break.

Although the East Africans made a valiant attempt to stem Nigeria’s tide after the interval with some attacking forays of their own, the Super Eagles scored a third goal to all but end the game as a contest.

Nigeria won a penalty in the 57th minute when the fleet-footed Samuel Kalu was brought down in the area; one which Odion Ighalo held his nerve to send goalkeeper Dave Mussard the wrong way and evidently putting Seychelles’ hopes of making it to Cameroon in dire straits.

The match could not have been more different from Nigeria’s group opener played out in June last year, where the home crowd was stunned into silence when the Super Eagles were comprehensively taken apart by South Africa – losing 2-0 on the day.

Although the Bafana Bafana made an erratic start in the qualifiers with the sobering win over Nigeria, it is Libya that currently leads the group; albeit on goal difference after both teams played out to a goalless draw in Durban last month.

Trouble has however hit the Libya camp just a matter of days before their decisive match against Nigeria, with news confirming that Adel Amrouche has shockingly resigned from his position as head coach of the Libyan national football team.

Former assistant coach Omar Al-Marime has since been appointed for the role and will as such lead the Mediterranean Knights on their trip to West Africa.

Libya vs. Nigeria betting predictions

Whereas Nigeria’s opening bid went up in smoke, Libya began their AFCON campaign with verve and purpose.

The Super Eagles are third in the group on three points and desperately need a win to boost their chances of qualifying, seeing as only the first two teams in each of the 12 qualifying groups will make it to next year’s tournament.

Libya on the other hand seems susceptible at a first look given the unprecedented change in coaching staff, but the Mediterranean Knights have a squad strong enough to cause Gernot Rohr sleepless nights.
