New Jersey gambling regulators have fined Rush Street Interactive for underage wagering offences dating back more than year.

The operators of PlaySugarHouse.com were fined $30,000 after 13 individuals between the ages of 18 and 20 were allowed to place $5,000 in bets from November 2016 until January 2018.

The breach was traced back to a software fault that resulted in lax monitoring of players’ birth dates.

“We take this matter very seriously,” Rush Street said in a statement.

“As soon as our team discovered the misconfiguration, we self-reported it to the gaming commission and took immediate action to correct and prevent recurrence.”

This is the first time the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has had to issue fines for underage online gambling.

However, Rush Street is not the first operator to find itself on the wrong side of the law in the Garden State.

The most notable offender is Caesars Entertainment, which escaped with a slap on the wrist after taking bets on college football games last year.
