Roger Federer vs. Nick Kyrgios

Saturday, September 1 – 4pm EST

There has been drama aplenty in the U.S. Open with the heat issues and gender politics, and it should come as no surprise that Nick Kyrgios is involved. Chair umpire Mohamed Lahyani left his post to speak to a struggling Kyrgios during his second-round matchup with Pierre Hugues-Herbert, after which the Australian rallied from a set and a break down to win 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3, 6-0. Speculation is rife as to the nature of the conversation that sparked such a stunning comeback.

Among the many players and pundits to voice their opinion on the incident is Roger Federer, who said it was “not the umpire’s role” to speak with Kyrgios in such a manner. The Swiss superstar needed no cajoling from officials to breeze past Yoshihito Nishioka and Benoit Paire in straight sets.

Federer has a 2-1 edge in the head-to-head stakes after winning each of his last two meetings with Kyrgios, most recently in the Mercedes Cup this season. Roger has never beaten Kyrgios in straight sets, but that will change this weekend.

Tip: Federer to win 3-0, $2.25

Novak Djokovic vs. Richard Gasquet

Saturday, September 1 – 4pm EST

In the second round Novak Djokovic beat Tennys Sandgren 6-1, 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2 and Richard Gasquet downed Laslo Djere 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. While Gasquet has not dropped a set in his first two matches, he has lost 13 of 14 matches against Djokovic and is 0-6 facing him on hard courts. On top of that, the Djoker has beaten Gasquet in straight sets in their last two matches, which came in 2015 in Wimbledon and the French Open.

Djokovic has beaten Gasquet 11 straight times and while the Frenchman is the 25th ranked player in the world, don’t look for him to cause any real problems here. Djokovic has been solid on serve in the tournament, but has committed 62 unforced errors. He will cut down on those in this match and roll to a comfortable straight-sets win.

Tip: Djokovic to win 3-0, $1.61

Maria Sharapova vs. Jelena Ostapenko

Saturday, September 1 – 4pm EST

While Maria Sharapova is the lower-ranked player, she is still the betting favorite. The 2006 U.S. Open champion has won both of her matches in straight sets, most recently defeating Sorana Cirstea 6-2, 7-5 in the second round.

Jelena Ostapenko is the 10th-ranked player on the WTA Tour and has not had the easiest time getting to the third round. Both of her matches so far have gone to three sets, with Taylor Townsend taking her to 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 last time out. The young Latvian has struggled against decent opposition in the majors this year, losing all of her clashes with seeded players.

These two squared off earlier this season in the quarterfinals of the Internazionali BNL dItalia, where Sharapova triumphed in three sets. The Russian has looked solid on serve this tournament and Ostapenko will have trouble breaking her. It may well be another close contest, but the more experienced player should come out on top.

Tip: Sharapova to win, $1.53
