One of England’s better known bookies, Betfred was founded way back in 1967 and is one of the very first bookmakers to go online.
Betfred online bookmaker formed in 2004 and since then they have been at the forefront of punters’ minds.
The company has a reputation for delivering their clients enhanced odds and trustworthy service, but does the big name belie a substandard sports betting experience?
We went through the Betfred with a fine tooth comb for prospective punters and gave our verdict on one of the United Kingdom’s most well-known sports betting companies.
After a six month stint back in 2014 Betfred is no longer available to Australians
Using prominently blue colours, Betfred immediately stands out as a site because it utilises a contrasting white as the font and middle sections of the main page.
At the top in a black bar users can find the different Betfred sections which includes sports, totes, in play betting and live streaming.
On the left punters will find quick links, which change every day.
The main horse racing meet of the day will be at the top, while the day’s specials, the most pertinent sports of the day and the upcoming big sporting events are featured in that section.
To the right hand side the horse racing section with the ‘next to go’ races is featured, but given only times and dates are provided instead of a brief overview of runners or the entire field, we think this section leaves a little to be desired.
In the middle of the site there is a number of sports tabs which give direct access to the sports available in a certain timeframe, which can be toggled on the right hand side of the tabs.
This is a nice touch compared to other sites who utilise a different link for the upcoming sports, and the ability to change the timeframe around the sports you are looking at is a welcome addition.
Another great feature of the site is the ‘recent pay out’ section at the top, which is ideal for punters who take a keen interest in when the bookies get fleeced out.
Unfortunately the bookmaker loses serious points in its live betting section.
Markets are poorly explained and punters who like to bet on a sport based on the score will need to look elsewhere for the majority of the events on offer given Betfred do not list it.
Match statistics are also not provided, something that a significant portion of other bookmakers offer with their service.
Despite the subpar live betting area, the catalogue of sports punters can invest on is a deep one.

Betfred is one of the world’s oldest bookmakers but that does not mean they are living in the past – quite the contrary.
The sports book that Betfred boasts is strong and the live streaming and live betting areas of the site sit amongst the upper echelon of online bookmakers.
The promotions Betfred offer put them above and beyond a lot of their rivals given the sheer volume of specials they put up at any given time.
Betfred loses serious marks for its live betting section, which is substandard when compared to other trailblazers in the online sports betting world who offer live scores, match statistics and predictions.
Other sections of the site could be improved – such as the next to go horse racing market – but overall Betfred is an online bookmaker we can highly recommend to punters.
