Denver versus Oakland NFL Match History & Game Background
The Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders teams both split the two games facing each other last season with each team winning with the home ground advantage.
Most of the Raiders press in the off-season has been about star WR Antonio Brown. It looked like all was good after he apologized to the team and organization for his action and Gruden stated he would play in this game. However, it recently surfaced the Brown recorded a conversation with Gruden and leaked it online, which may have legal ramifications. In a whirlwind 72 hours of NFL trading, Brown has now signed with the New England Patriots for $15 Million a season will likely take the field for the Pats against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a few hours time.
Oakland finished in the basement of the AFC West last season at 4-12 and Denver missed the playoffs for the third straight season after a 6-10 campaign.
A lot changed for Denver in the off-season getting a new head coach in Vic Fangio and made a trade to get QB Joe Flacco, who was not so good in his last few seasons in Baltimore.
Flacco will have a pretty good WR corps to work with and last season as a rookie Phillip Lindsay was a surprise rushing for over 1,000 yards. Denver lost two starting offensive lineman in Jared Veldheer and Matt Paradis and the line is a concern with a less than mobile Flacco in the backfield.
Oakland’s main issue on “D” last season was against the pass where they only ranked 30th in the NFL.
This may be a make-or-break year for Derek Carr, who passed for 4,049 yards last season with 19 TD and 10 INT and was sacked 51 times. The line has to protect him from the Denver pass rush led by Von Miller.
With Brown gone, Carr does not have many weapons. Rookie Josh Jacobs is #1 on the RB depth chart followed by Jalen Richard, who rushed for 259 yards last season and ranked 3rd on the team with 607 receiving yards.
Denver’s defense is a few years removed from their great unit and last season only ranked 20th in the league defending the pass and 21st defending the run.
