U.S Open Golf – free odds, tips and full betting preview

U.S. Open Golf returns as the world’s best golfers take to Chambers Bay in Washington State this Friday.

The 115th edition of the U.S. Open will pit Tiger vs. Rory, Bradley vs. Jimenez and many more mouthwatering match ups that punters can look forward to.

Favouritism is currently held by two players that are dominating world golf as we speak; world number one Rory McIlory and new kid on the block Jordan Spieth, both at $9 with Sportsbet.com.au.

McIlroy is slowly chasing down the majors record set by Jack Nicklaus, and while it’s unlikely he will get to that number, it is possible that he could catch Tiger Woods, seeing as it looks like he will never win another major in his career.

Tiger is currently $61 to win the U.S. Open – his largest bookmaker quote in any major throughout his career – and his chances of adding another major to the list look toast.

Defending champion Martin Kaymer hasn’t been respected in the betting at $51 after poor recent form, but he is the best favoured German player at $1.28 over Marcel Siem and Stephan Jaeger.

U.S. Open tournament winner bets

Rory McIlroy is largely hit-and-miss this year and comes into this event having missed his last two cuts in Europe. His most recent missed cut came in the tournament he sponsored, but he flew straight to Chambers Bay to get three weeks practice in.

He is a very committed golfer to majors and the tricky Chambers Bay greens should see his solid putting stroke come to the fore.

The $9 available at bookmakers is on the short side, but seeing that Jordan Spieth is at the same price, there is good value with the world’s best golfer.

McIlroy is no stranger to winning the U.S. Open, winning in 2011 at Congressional Country Club by a whopping eight strokes over Australia’s Jason Day ($34).

Expect McIlroy to fire out of the blocks and if he can grab the lead by Round Two, this tournament could be over before you know it.

Justin Rose is in solid form after losing the Memorial in a playoff last tournament. The Englishman has steadily worked his way up the golfing ranks and finds himself as the third favourite to win the U.S. Open.

Rose won this event in 2013 at Merion Golf Club by two shots over Phil Mickelson and once again Jason Day. Roses’ score of +1 was a true reflection of the tough nature the U.S. Open possesses and this will work in his favour at Chambers Bay.

Rose likes to start fast in his tournaments and the $31 available at Sportsbet for first round leader looks very enticing.

Our third winning chance belongs to…Dustin Johnson! The enigmatic American himself who has rebounded well this year after sitting on the sidelines for a few months.

Johnson usually performs well in majors and his style of game suits Chambers Bay. He has a very underrated short game and the mini-putt styled greens should play into his favour.

He has yet to win the U.S. Open, but natural progression states that this will be his next major win and bookmakers are respecting Johnson at $21.

Johnson is also featured in Sportsbet’s “The field vs. The Bigs” to which he is alongside Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose, Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy – excluding Tiger Woods from that list.

The field is currently $1.50 whereas the Big’s are $2.46 which is great value. The Big’s feature the in-form players in golf at the moment so add that option to your multi-bets.

Best U.S. Open exotic bets

Top Lefty:

Phil Mickelson – $1.73
Bubba Watson – $2.63
Brian Harman – $6.50

Phil Mickelson keeps trucking on amid controversy and he’s proving more tough than his rival Tiger Woods. He’s a great chance to win the top lefty honours with only Watson and Harman to beat.

Discard Brian Harman as this tournament should be too tough for him, and Phil’s only danger is Bubba Watson who can catch fire at any moment.

To lead after every round and win:

For this option, your selected golfer must be the leader after all four rounds. Whilst this option seems highly unlikely to cash, there are a few players which can win wire-to-wire.

McIlroy is the current favourite at $41 which will look like massive value if he happens to lead after round one. Expect McIlroy’s tournament winning price to drop to around $4 if he leads after the first round.

Other chances include Spieth at $51, Rickie Fowler ($81) and Justin Rose at $91.

Will there be a hole-in-one?

Everyone loves watching a golfer score a hole-in-one and our bookmakers are offering great value for those punters.

Both yes and no options are joint favourites at $1.83, but we’re favouring the ‘yes’ option here. Chambers Bay has some tricky greens, but they slope back to the hole which makes a hole-in-one seem likely.

The field is also much larger than the PGA Championship and the Masters, so the chances of an ace increase.

Take the $1.83 at CrownBet and watch the highlight reel for the hole-in-one.

Best U.S. Open bets

Tournament winner -Dustin Johnson ($21) at Sportsbet.com.au

Dustin Johnson may have his demons away from the course, but he is one talented golfer. The big American has the long and short game to cope with the difficult-natured Chambers Bay so put him on top at a value price.

Underdog chance – Sergio Garcia at $36

Sergio Garcia is quickly adding his name to the best never list. He’s never won a major, but Chambers Bay reminds us of the Open Championship courses which Sergio excels at.

He’s been close before so expect the Spanish bull to fire up and make a run at long odds.

Top Australian player – Jason Day ($3) at CrownBet.com.au

He has finished second in the U.S. Open on two occasions and he targets majors. The young Australian deserves a major and he’s a solid chance to beat the likes of Scott, Leishman, Senden and Marcus Fraser.
