MA Online betting & gambling introdcution

Massachusetts is a state where there are many gambling options, as there are casinos, poker rooms, and dog and horse racing.

Sports betting is not legal in the New England state, but that may change soon. The slew of new casinos in the state came after the 2011 Expanded Gaming Act was passed, which really opened up the state to gaming.

The most betting options for residents of Massachusetts, or any state in that matter, is online with all the poker rooms, casinos, sportsbooks, and racebooks on the Net today.

Most of the top books online will accept wagers from residents of the United States.

Sports betting is not legal in Massachusetts and there are no land-based sportsbooks at the casinos.

Betting on sports may not be far away in the state, and all others, as on May 18th, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act was overturned by the U.S Supreme Court.

What this did is pave the way for legalised sports betting on a state-by-state basis. In February of 2018, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission released a 31-page report to show a “roadmap for those seeking to learn about the current landscape of the sports betting discussion in the country and its possibilities in Massachusetts.”

The state has no laws on the books now, but the progressive state will likely have sports gambling legalized in the not too distant future with the federal law recently overturned.

The state would both tax and regulate sports betting, which will help the state’s economy. Still, as of July 19th 2018 the most options for Massachusetts residents to place sports bets is to do so online.

Online sportsbooks for Massachusetts

Since Massachusetts only has online sports wagering as the only way to bet on sports sportsbooks on the Net are the only option.

The language does not specify online sports betting in its laws and does not prosecute for online wagering. In terms of sportsbooks you need to find one that is reputable and has everything you are looking for.

You have to pinpoint your betting needs and then pick a book from there. Once you know what you want a few things any good sportsbooks should have include many sports to bet on, a variety of bet types, solid player security, 24/7 customer service with Live Chat, banking options, and enticing bonuses and promotions.

By doing a little homework beforehand you can choose a sportsbook that will be just right for your betting needs.

Most of the top sportsbook accept wagers from U.S. residents and here are three of them:

  • Bovada.lv – This established and reputable online sportsbook gives their players many betting options from sports with lines and bet types to great customer service and great bonuses. Betting on horse racing in Massachusetts

Horse racing is legal in Massachusetts with pari-mutuel wagering allowed in 1935.

Suffolk Downs Horse Racing Track is the oldest racetrack in the state, Plainridge Racecourse is a great harness-racing track, and every year the Northampton County Fair has exciting thoroughbred horse racing.

You can see there are tracks in the state, but for the most races to wagers on and the most bet types offered racebooks online give you the most options.

They will have races from all over the world and at the biggest tracks and offer many betting options. On top of that when betting on the horses online there is a much wider variety of stakes.

Online Poker in Massachusetts

There are poker rooms at a few of the casinos in Massachusetts and they offer different games and stakes. However, those things are much more limited than with playing at the many poker rooms online. Most are reputable and offer no lack of games and stakes and there are also many more tournaments available.

Online Betting Laws in Massachusetts

For horse racing the Massachusetts State Racing Commission oversees the sport in the state to both protect horse racing as a whole, but also to protect the welfare of the horses.

In 2011 the Expanded Gaming Act was passed and this led the way to casinos to be legal in the state and that industry has expanded rapidly in a short time. The Affordable Casino Repeal looked to overturn the Gaming Act, but it was shot down 60%-40%. In terms of sports betting the only language pertaining to it in Massachusetts is in Chapter 271, Section 1 stating that anyone who wins “five dollars or more” by “gaming or betting on the sides or hands of those gaming” shall “forfeit double the value of such money or goods.”

In 1971 the Massachusetts Lottery was established and offers of local draws as well as scratch cards.

The great white hope for online betting in Massaachusetts is Bill H 4887 which passed The House with flying colours, but was rejected by the Senate, who refused to include any sports betting in its version.

If Bill H 4887 is eventually passed in its entirety it will mean MA betting sites will launch and bring Massaachusetts into line with other US states like Rhode Island (RI betting sites) and New Hampshire (NH sports betting sites). At the moment the most lucrative US betting market is New Jersey (NJ online betting sites), which had the biggest handle for November 2020.

Other US states to have began movement on legalising sports betting betting include Maine and Maryland, while Texas (Top TX betting sites) is close to finalising their plans.
