South Carolina sports betting 2022

South Carolina

Sports betting is banned in South Carolina and there has been very little action by this state to legalize it, despite other states making huge money from tax revenue. North Carolina sports betting was discussed by legislators in 2019, but failed to receive the green light, while covid and politicians inaction look to have curtailed any progress. There are offshore betting sites that will accept bets from South Carolina, but BettingPlanet.com does not promote these websites. We will update our guide to sports betting in South Carolina when more information is available.

No sports betting is legal in South Carolina, but change is on the horizon on that front.

On May 18th of 2018 the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act was overturned by the U.S Supreme Court.

This will allow for legal sports betting on a state-to-state basis where the state would regulate and tax wagering on sports.

In 2017 House Bill No. 3102 was introduced, which would have made it legal to bet on professional sports. However, the bill was not enacted and nothing is on the books now in terms of the legalization of sports betting.

There are options for South Carolina to wager on sports with the many reputable sportsbooks online. For making wagers at online sportsbooks the legal age to make a wager is 18 years old.

There are a lot of solid and reputable sportsbooks online today, but it is advantageous to do some research in order to find the right one for you.

The best book is the one that caters to your betting needs and gives you everything that you need to safely make wagers.

Speaking of safety, player security is one of the main things to pinpoint when you are looking to sign up and wager at an online sportsbook.

The other things a good sportsbook should have are many sports with lines, many bet types, banking, both deposit and withdrawal, options, 24/7 customer service, and attractive bonuses and promotions.

You can check out a book’s customer service department by contacting them and seeing how easy it is to get in touch with them and if they answer any questions you may have.

On top of that Live Chat is a good service option to have considering you can have issues resolved in real time.

You should also be aware that there are many great bonuses and promotions, especially sign up bonuses, out there, but be sure you read the fine print to make sure you will meet the gambling requirements so you can get the bonus money.

Let’s check out three online sportsbooks that have a good reputation and accept wagers from U.S. residents.

  • Bovada.lv – This established sportsbook is very popular and with good reason for all the things they offer their players. they check all the boxes, and more, for the things that make up a good online sportsbook. They also offer a poker room and a casino with Live Dealer games.

The top racebooks will often offer very lucrative bonuses and promotions for the bigger races such as the ones in the Triple Crown.

The Kentucky Derby is the biggest race in the world and at many racebooks you can find many interesting proposition bets.

Online Poker in South Carolina

In South Carolina land-based poker is restricted to the two cruise casinos that operate out of the Little River.

However, there are not many tables at these ship casinos and you have to be in international waters in order to game. Still, there is no lack of poker options online.

There are many of reputable poker rooms that offer many game variations, tournaments, and a wide variety of stakes.

Online betting Laws in South Carolina

As stated before South Carolina has a law that has not been changed in over 200 years where all forms of gambling are illegal.

Horse racing and the two riverboat casinos that end up in international waters are the only legal forms of gambling.

The laws are so outdated it does not even mention in them anything about sports betting, which is also illegal as of early August 2018.

The law does state that anyone who takes part in “bookmaking, with or without writing, at any time or place” will be guilty of a misdemeanor that has a penalty of up to $1000 and a jail sentence of up to six months.

South Carolina sports betting will need a change in legislation to become legal, but so far we have seen very little progress from lawmakers. If South Carolina betting sites were to launch it would bring the state in-line with New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
